Dusseldorf: nomansland.academy at „RAUM für RAUM / RAUM für Kunst“

"Lost _ identity" by Rainer Junghanns, 18 drawings from the years 1985-1995 that were saved by applying special drying methods subsequent to the catastrophic flood in 2021, having been damaged by mud and water. With the exception of these drawing, the artist's entire tangible artistic oeuvre fell victim to the flood. Copyright: Rainer Junghanns

"nomansland.academy" deals with the topic of "identity", and does so "in different socio-cultural contexts, while addressing the digital transformation and questioning rituals, belonging and a changing concept of home". The initiator, Rainer Junghanns, a sculptor from Düsseldorf, is expanding the "Hodden Messages" project, which reflected on the sense of isolation during the covid pandemic. The previous contributions to "nomansland.academy" will be exhibited in Seoul in October 2022 at the IPO alternative Artspace of Seoul. The exhibition will then be on display at Düsseldorf's "RAUM für RAUM / RAUM für Kunst" from 20 November to 4 December 2022. A presentation in Japan at the Kyoto City University of Arts will follow in spring 2023. Participating in the project are: Yukako Ando, Setsuko Fukushima, Maho Maeda, Takahiro Tanaka, Miryeon Kim, Son Youngdeuk, Choe Ra Yun, Hye Kyung Son, Jiwon Park, June Pak, Ming-Ming Yin, Ishu Chen, Melanie Balsam Parasole, Harald Hofmann, Omar Rosales, Erik Bachthold and Rainer Junghanns. "The project is designed to be collaborative, with further venues and artistic perspectives to follow." With this project, Rainer Junghanns concludes his exhibitions at the art space in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel and intends to carry out such projects in a decentralised manner in the future with "contemporary, global exhibitions in multicultural, international environments".
